NORWOOD, Massachusetts – June 3, 2008 – Four Points by Sheraton Norwood, a business-class hotel and full-service conference center, announced today it will be converting the fourth floor of its Gold Wing into an allergy friendly environment.
The conversion, which will be conducted by Pure Solutions N.A. (Pure™ ), is expected to take place over six days in early June, with five rooms scheduled to be completed each day. The process for converting a normal hotel room into a Pure™ allergy friendly room involves each unit undergoing an intensive purification process where every surface is treated to minimize contaminants and irritants that may cause discomfort to allergy-prone guests.
Four Points by Sheraton Norwood chose to pursue the Pure™ room system as a way of identifying with a common yet often unaddressed concern among guests. Research indicated that very few hotels in the metropolitan Boston area offered such a program and those who did only converted a small number of rooms over. With a full floor consisting of 28 rooms, the Four Points by Sheraton Norwood has committed to the health and wellness of their clients in a way that emphasizes their dedication to cleanliness and a high standard of maintenance.
“We take a great deal of pride in the cleanliness and maintenance of our hotel, so our guests can rest assured that every room and guest space in our hotel is cleaned to our highest standards.” said Kevin Casey, General Manager of the Four Points by Sheraton Norwood. “Some guests, however, present allergy symptoms that preclude them from staying in rooms that are perfectly fine for non-allergy sufferers. By offering the Pure™ room advantage, we’re making it easier for those with allergies to travel comfortably. It’s another way for us to prove to our guests that they are our biggest asset, and we strive to make their stay here enjoyable.” Research into intensive cleaning programs brought the Four Points by Sheraton Norwood in touch with Pure Solutions N.A. Market research found that allergy sufferers would be willing to pay significantly more for an allergy friendly room than suffer through an evening of common symptoms such as sneezing, headaches, skin conditions or worse. However, Four Points by Sheraton Norwood has assigned a price point of only $20 additional to reserve one of these rooms.
The conversion, performed by trained technicians, comprehensively cleans and sanitizes every surface of the room from the walls to the linens as well as the air in each unit. HVAC appliances are then equipped with the company’s patented tea tree oil cartridge which contains an antiseptic and disinfectant gel to maintain sanitary conditions during the conversion. The room then undergoes a 5-hour high ozone shock treatment to kill any remaining germs or odors. Finally, a bacteriostatic barrier called Pure Shield is applied to all surfaces to help minimize the growth of new bacteria. Periodic maintenance performed by these certified technicians includes replacing filters, re-cleaning the air handling unit and the carpets, and recertifying the room to Pure™ standards.
