The Four Points by Sheraton Norwood Hosts Norwood High School PTA Honors Banquet

Hotel donates the cost of 56 dinners for honorees

NORWOOD, Mass. – June 11, 2009 – Four Points by Sheraton Norwood, a business-class hotel and full-service conference center, announced today that it donated the cost of dinner for 56 students at the Norwood High School’s Parents Teachers Association (PTA) annual Honors Banquet on May 5, 2009.

The Four Points by Sheraton Norwood donated the cost of the dinner for each of the award recipients. Held annually, the Honors Banquet recognizes the academic achievements of the top thirty seniors, the top ten juniors, the top five sophomores, and the top five freshmen from Norwood High School. Due to additional donations from colleges and universities, this year sixteen junior students were honored for a total of 56 students recognized for their outstanding academic performance.

“The Norwood High School PTA is deeply grateful for the generosity of the Four Points by Sheraton Norwood for the donation of the cost of the students' meals,” said Maria Muller, treasurer of the Norwood High School PTA. “The evening went beautifully, the room was tastefully appointed and the food and service were excellent. Our school principal, George Usevich, remarked that this year’s honors banquet was the ‘best ever’. We have nothing but high praise for the generosity and service of the Four Points by Sheraton Norwood.”

A student qualifies for this honor based on class rank, which is calculated at the end of the third term marking period. The top five seniors speak about academic achievements, accomplishments, and goals on behalf of the thirty senior students in attendance. The juniors are presented with book awards donated by colleges and universities, and the junior with the highest combined average in pre-calculus and honors physics is presented with the Rensselaer Medal and a scholarship of $15,000 to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, should the student decide to attend. Norwood High School was invited to participate in the Rensselaer Medal Program more than twenty years ago and the $15,000 scholarship is guaranteed for four years.
