WALTHAM, Massachusetts – August 15, 2008 – The Waltham Education and Beyond Foundation, a town-wide educational foundation that works to provide resources across the school system, announced today the establishment of two educational grant programs available to the students and faculty of the Waltham Public School System. “We’re so fortunate to be able to implement a program that looks at education outside of the standard curriculum,” said Tom Dusel, president of the Waltham Education and Beyond Foundation and president and CEO of Hobbs Brook Management, a staunch corporate sponsor of the foundation. “We are providing our community the opportunity to creatively enhance their own learning potential across the school system. It’s an amazing feeling to know how much hope and excitement this is generating throughout our schools.”
The Excellence in Education Grant Program
The Excellence in Education Grant Program (EEGP) is the cornerstone of the Foundation’s efforts to provide meaningful and enriching educational opportunities for students in the Waltham Public School community. Funds raised by the foundation become the source of grant money for the Excellence in Education program which is open to Waltham Public school teachers, staff, and administrators as well as junior and senior high school students. The program intends to rally support by encouraging teachers and staff to take advantage of the funds offered. Where can they get more information?
The Sally Elizabeth Peters Enrichment Program
The Sally Elizabeth Peters Enrichment Program has been made possible by a personal donation from Dr. and Mrs. Alan Peters in memory of their daughter Sally. Sally was a student at the MacArthur Elementary School and attended the Waltham Junior and Senior High Schools before pursuing several college degrees. She was also a member of the Waltham Symphony Orchestra Chorus, the Reagle Players with an avid interest in photography. The purpose of this program is to honor the memory of Sally by enriching student and teacher experiences and learning opportunities.
“This program wouldn’t be possible without the generous donation by Mr. & Mrs. Peters. We’re very fortunate to have their support to help us grow our foundation and enrich the lives or our students.” said Deborah Marcou, chairperson of the Waltham Education and Beyond Foundation. “This program is unique in that it encourages cross-discipline or even cross-school collaboration and strives towards the betterment of a large student base. We’re very excited to see what kinds of curriculum sprout from the distribution of these grants.”
A number of proposals have been received and are under review by the specially appointed Grant Board. Grants, totaling $22,000 this cycle, will be awarded in September of 2008. For more information on the Waltham Education and Beyond Foundation, please visit www.waltham-ebf.org.

About the Waltham Education and Beyond Foundation
The foundation is a nonprofit organization that provides help to students and teachers of Waltham’s public schools. Formed in July of 2007, the foundation raises money to help develop programs not funded through tax dollars. Largely supported by sponsors, teachers apply directly for grant money to fund their initiatives. The program offers small grants up to $1000 for projects typically benefiting a single classroom, and major grants of between $1,000 and $5,000 to benefit a larger number of students.
