Hobbs Brook Says Goodbye to a Vital Team Member

By on Jan. 22, 2015

It is with great sadness that Hobbs Brook Management announces the loss of a vital team member.  Executive Chef, Lars E. Bjork passed away suddenly on Wednesday, January 14th in his Seabrook, NH home at the age of 53.

Lars entered the military at a young age and when he returned, the Veterans Administration Compensated Work Therapy Program got him a job with Hobbs Brook.  From there, Lars excelled and advanced in the company to become a Food and Beverage Manager.  He then began to pay it forward by hiring fellow veterans who were at low points in their lives and helping them through difficult times.

At Lars’ wake, his family was greeted by about 100 Veterans who came to express their sympathies and tell stories about how Lars helped them.  “They ran up to us, hands out to shake our hands, to meet his family,” says Linda Bjork, Lars’ sister, “They told us incredible stories about how down and out they were and how Lars hired them, mentored them, helped them get their lives back together.”

"Coworkers and customers will miss Lars' friendly smile and conversation." - Michael Lalli, Hobbs Brook Vice President of Building Services

Lars had been a member of the Hobbs Brook Food Service Team for almost 20 years.  He was a natural teacher and frequently trained new hires.  All of the new staff loved Lars and did not want to leave him when their training was complete.  “Lars was an amazing man who just wanted to help others succeed in their passions any way he could.” says Ashley St. Jean, who has worked closely with Lars for the past 4 years.  “He did so much for me and I wouldn’t be where I am today if it weren’t for his encouragement and support.”

Lars was a big Red Sox and Patriots fan and would often discuss the games and the various moves each team would make with his co-workers, especially Michael Lalli, Vice President of Building Services.  “All of us held Lars in the highest regard.  Lars exemplified hospitality and customer service.” says Lalli, who has supervised Lars for the past 20 years and has seen him be a major contributor to Hobbs Brook Food Services.

“Lars’ life’s work was a true inspiration to us and to others.  In his own quiet way he worked to bring about great change, one vet at a time.  Many will miss him.” – Linda Bjork

Hobbs Brook Management would like to extend our deepest sympathies to Lars’ family and friends.  Click Here for more information, to post a tribute to Lars, view photos, or send flowers.
